Lent begins tomorrow. That means I have a choice to make. I can just treat the next 5 weeks as any other. Or, I can reclaim the discipline of using Lent as a season of reflection/repentance and preparation for the celebration of resurrection on Easter Day. I've chosen the latter.
That decision means I will need to find a way to increase the time I spend alone with God. And the only way that's going to happen is to stop doing something else. That's right...a fast. But what? What can I choose to stop doing that will both give me increased time AND remind me to get alone with God?
I've decided that this year, I'm going to fast from Facebook. That may not sound very spiritual. It may even seem wrong (withdrawing from people). But here's what I know. I typically spend 10-15 minutes, 2-3 times per day on Facebook. That's exactly the kind of periodic reminder that will help me. So, I'm logging off Facebook and turning off all email notifications of activity.
I'll see you all in the season of Easter!
