Adventures in Coffee Roasting

I am officially a coffee geek.

A couple years ago, I began driving to Greencastle to purchase freshly roasted, whole bean coffee. That was an major improvement over the Maxwell House I normally drank.

Within a few months, Janet bought me a conical burr grinder to replace the propeller grinder I had used previously. That made an even bigger difference. Now every ground is exactly the same size.

Now, I've taken another step forward. For my birthday, Janet bought me a home coffee roaster. It's Fresh Roast Plus 8. And it is fantastic!

I had heard that coffee is best consumed 12-72 hours after roasting. Now I know the truth of that statement. What a difference. It came with a pound of unroasted Costa Rica Dota beans.

My first roast was a bit too dark for my taste. But since then, it's been pure coffee heaven.

So now, I'm finding sources for unroasted beans. That will lead to custom roasting...developing my own blends...building a greenhouse to grow my own plants (well, maybe not that far).
