Here are some of the thoughts I've had as I continue my journey through the Bible this year:
Quote:
“At that time there was no king in Israel. People did whatever they felt like doing.” (Judges 21:25)
Thought:
When there's a lack of spiritual leadership, the people commit all sorts of tragic sins.
Quote:
Then Boaz added, "You realize, don't you, that when you buy the field from Naomi, you also get Ruth the Moabite, the widow of our dead relative, along with the redeemer responsibility to have children with her to carry on the family inheritance." Then the relative said, "Oh, I can't do that—I'd jeopardize my own family's inheritance. You go ahead and buy it—you can have my rights— I can't do it." (Ruth 4:5-6)
Thought:
Buying a field is one thing. It adds to the bottom line. But taking on family responsibility is a completely different matter. How often hold similar attitudes?
Quote:
Every time she went to the sanctuary of God she could expect to be taunted. (1 Samuel 1:7)
Thought:
And we get upset when someone's sitting in our seat!
Quote:
Eli jumped to the conclusion that she was drunk. He approached her and said, "You're drunk! How long do you plan to keep this up? Sober up, woman!" (1 Samuel 1:14)
Thought:
Apparently, Eli sees more drunk people than those pouring out their hearts in prayer.
Quote:
This was at a time when the revelation of God was rarely heard or seen. (1 Samuel 3:1)
Thought:
What a sad commentary.
Quote:
They ordained his son, Eleazar, to take responsibility for the Chest of God. (1 Samuel 7:1)
Thought:
Considering its recent history, I wonder how Eleazar felt about this?
Quote:
But the priest slowed them down: "Let's find out what God thinks about this." (1 Samuel 14:36)
Thought:
Always a good idea!
