Sunday Rewind 4.8.07

Expectations have a powerful impact on our lives. They affect our emotions, attitudes and behaviors. On the first Easter Sunday, the women expected to find a sealed tomb holding Jesus dead body. What they found was an open tomb and a resurrected Savior.

You can read about it here.

Many people today make the same mistake the women make. They set their expectations, and then insist that God fit their definition. But that defies the most basic lesson of theology: God is God, I am not. God is who He is, regardless of our expectations. To have a relationship with God that works, it's important to have your expectations of God match His reality.

Easter tells us a few things that we can expect from God.
  1. God keeps his promises. Jesus told his disciples what was going to happen, then did it.
  2. Salvation is complete. There's nothing left for us to do.
  3. Because Jesus lives, we will live. At the end our living the life God created us to enjoy, He will welcome us home. And at Christ's return, our bodies will be resurrected as well.

That's what we can expect.
