Here are some of the thoughts I had this week as I continued the journey of reading through the Bible.
Quote: Moses was eighty and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh. (Exodus 7:7)
Thought: I know I've read this before, but thinking about going to Pharaoh in my 80's seems incredible to me.
Quote: “the magicians of Egypt did the same thing with their incantations...The magicians tried to produce gnats with their incantations but this time they couldn't do it.” (Exodus 7:22; 8:18)
Thought: I sometimes wonder what manifestations of God's power the church is demonstrating today that can't be done by the world. I know this was a special circumstance. Still, it seems to me that a community of faith, living in the power of the Holy Spirit, should be dynamic place of expectation.
Quote: The People of Israel went to work and started gathering, some more, some less, but when they measured out what they had gathered, those who gathered more had no extra and those who gathered less weren't short—each person had gathered as much as was needed. (Exodus 16:17-18)
Thought: Isn't that just like God...providing exactly what is needed, regardless of our capacity to work for it? Everyone who obeyed Him and gathered, had enough.
Quote: But they didn't listen to Moses. A few of the men kept back some of it until morning. It got wormy and smelled bad. (Exodus 16:20)
Thought: Isn't that just like humanity...being greedy with God's grace? When will we ever listen?
Quote: God spoke to Moses: "Tell the Israelites that they are to set aside offerings for me. Receive the offerings from everyone who is willing to give...(Exodus 25-27)
Thought: I find it interesting that God doesn't ask people to give under coercion. Nor does He ask people to give what they don't have. But He did ask the Israelites to give the very best of what they had and to utilize their finest craftsmanship in making the Tabernacle.
