My Journey...Getting Back on Track

Life can get crazy. And when life gets crazy, we cheat, often causing increased stress. Nutritious meals become a trip through the drive-thru. Sleep becomes burning the midnight oil. Exercise becomes dragging yourself out of bed in the morning. Conversations with your spouse become single-syllable grunts. Spending time with God? Well...He'll understand.

Every year, about this time, I find myself doing some reflection on my schedule. And, every year, about this time, I discover the same thing. I've gotten lazy. I'm cheating. It's time to get back on track.

Here's an excerpt from my reading this morning that I need to be reminded of, especially as the school year ramps up to full speed:

Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will beging to sense his grace. (Matthew 6:6; The Message)

It was good advice then. It's good advice today. God, grant me the grace to do it!
