Too often, I fail to recognize some simple joys for the great blessing that they are. The most recent example is our kitchen table.
For our family, the kitchen table is the place where we do life together. Of course, we eat there. But we also talk, do homework, play games and many other things at our kitchen table.
For the last several weeks, our kitchen table has held the contents of several of our cabinets as they are being painted. Since we don't have a dining rome, we've been standing at the counter to eat our meals.
But last night, we finally cleared the table and ate a meal together. What a simple joy! I'm grateful for the new look our kitchen is taking on. But I'm even more grateful for those moments of family gathered around the table.

I have a confession to make...when our firstborn left for college four years ago, the sight of his empty spot at the table was so painful for me we started eating in the living room, and now only use the "table" for company.
