This past Saturday, I submitted my application for Father of the Year. Here's what happened...
My son had a soccer game. Watching him play is one of my great joys. The weather was questionable, so I checked email to be sure the game wasn't canceled. No message...game on.
I double checked the directions to the field, and after a brief scan, remembered how to get there from last year. We loaded everyone in the van and headed over one mountain to Path Valley. Game time was scheduled for 10:30 am.
We arrived around 9:30 am, a bit before the time requested by the coach. A game of older players was in process, so we sat and watched. As time went by, noone from our team arrived. The game before us ended and we were left alone at the field. We weren't happy. So we headed for home.
On arriving home, we called the coach to ask why we weren't notified the game was canceled. This confused his wife, since the game was not cancelled. So why didn't we see the other members of our team?
Because I didn't read the whole page of directions! Apparently the U10 games are played at a different location. And the directions to that location were lower on the page.
So, not only did my son not get to play, our family didn't get to watch, we drove a little more than an hour for nothing, and the team was left wondering why we didn't show up.
If that doesn't earn me Father of the Year honors, I don't know what will!
