Surprising Substitute

Getting out of bed this morning was tough. When the alarm went off at 5:00, I was in such a deep sleep that I jumped. I was so jolted that instead of hitting snooze, I turned the alarm off. That created a problem.

I wavered between decisions. Should I get up and go to the gym, or roll over and go back to sleep? It didn't help that today was supposed to be ab and back day. But if I didn't show up, I'd have Derek to answer to. The debate raged until I rolled out at 5:30.

I breathed a sigh of relief when Derek's car wasn't in the parking lot. Then I started to think, "What if he doesn't show up?"

I got changed, and as I was coming out of the locker room, Derek came. Neither of us wanted to be there. Neither of us wanted to do abs and back. Neither of us wanted to do legs. So we went to the treadmills to warm up anyway. That's when the surprising substitute happened.

About 8 minutes into warming up, I realized that we were nearly 1/3 of the way through a cardio workout. I suggested that we just finish a cardio workout on the treadmill. Derek agreed. So that's what we did.

An extra cardio workout instead of resistance training? That's one surprising substitute!
