The basic premise of the book seems to be encouraging church leaders to stop spending so much time and energy developing complicated ministries. Instead, the authors suggest the following four word outline:
- Clarity - making sure everyone understand that the church is about one thing...and only one thing...making disciples.
- Movement - removing multiple layers of programming to encourage people to move through the process of becoming a disciple
- Alignment - investing human resources in accomplishing the goal of making disciples
- Focus - preventing the church from becoming loaded down with additional ministries.
My review? AMEN!
I have often wondered why we make things so complicated. Jesus didn't. Love God...Love People...Make Disciples. That's so easy. Why do we make it about more than that?
It's not about having the best (fill in your favorite program here) in town. It's about making disciples. If we are not seeing people move from pre-Christian to fully devoted follower of Christ, we are failing, even if we're the talk of the town.
I'm going to need to read this again. I'm also going to have to share it with some of our leaders.

Indeed. It is a book I'll be sharing with many in our leadership team.
