Waiting is part of the Christian life. Jesus paid the price for our sin 2,000 years ago. Since then, we've been waiting. It's been so long that if we’re not careful, we can lose sight of what we’re waiting for. Let’s allow the Scriptures to remind us.
Scripture Lesson: Hebrews 9:24-28.
The Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) was the most important annual holiday on the Jewish calendar. The central focus of the day was the High Priest entering the Most Holy Place. Once inside, he lit the incense, and if all went well, emerged unscathed from the inner chamber. It was a time of great anticipation because noone knew for sure if he would ever come out again.
Jesus put an end to the need for an annual event. Instead of entering a man-made copy, He entered the heavenly sanctuary once for all. Instead of offering animal blood, He offered the perfect sacrifice once for all. Jesus’ life, death, resurrection & ascension signal the final stage of salvation history.
Jesus went into the sanctuary, but hasn’t come out…yet. There’s no question about whether Jesus will return. We just don’t know when. And when He comes it won't be to deal with sin. He’s coming to bring salvation for those who are waiting for Him.
Jesus could return at any moment. Or it might be another 2,000 years. When He does, will you be waiting for Him?
