A Debt of Gratitude

The residents of the Shippensburg area are blessed to be served by dedicated emergency responders. I am always thankful for these folks, but yesterday was particularly special.

Between the fire, multiple accidents on I81, and the heat, our personnel were pressed to the limit. And they responded admirably. I got thinking this morning...

Most of our first-responders are volunteers. I know it's obvious, but that means most of them did not get paid one cent for their countless hours of work. No doubt, many of them missed a day of work yesterday. What a blessing it is to have these fine citizens as part of our community!

So let me encourage you to take a moment to say thank you. If you know a volunteer, why not send a note or make a call? If you pass a fire station, stop by just to say thank you. And certainly, let's continue to pray for safety as our neighbors place their lives on the line for us.
