Today is a most difficult day. Good Friday is past. Easter Day is coming. So what about today?
The gospel text doesn't even talk about an event that happened on Saturday.
Maybe today isn't about walking with Jesus. Maybe it's about walking without Him.
Before you begin the heresy fires, think about it. For three years, the disciples enjoyed God's continuing presence in the person of Jesus. Pentecost is still in the future. Today, the disciples are alone...desperately alone.
Sometimes this journey has seasons like that. We know, theologically, that God is present. But we can't sense it. We sing, pray, read, everything we can think of . Yet there is still nothing.
Maybe today is about that. We're longing for Easter Day. We'd even be willing to replay the horrific story of Good Friday. But today, there is nothing.
Lord, grant me the grace to walk this day of emptiness. In the absence, build my faith. My heart longs for You. Yearns for You. Even so, come quickly. Amen
