Anticipation

It's the last week of Lent, and the anticipation is building. Anticipation for what? For the celebration of the resurrection! But first, there are some difficult last steps to take.

On Holy Thursday, we gather to remember the Passover meal that Jesus celebrated with his disciples in that "upper room". We're reminded that Jesus is the final sacrifice. We're reminded to serve each other in love. We're reminded that every time we eat the bread and drink the cup, we proclaim the Lord's death until he comes again. And we're reminded that Jesus' betrayal was sealed by the kiss of a friend.

On Good Friday, we gather to remember Jesus' crucifixion and death. We're reminded of the high price Jesus paid for our sin. We're reminded that our bondage to sin has been broken. We're reminded that the work of salvation is finished. And we're reminded that we, too, are called to carry our cross.

On Holy Saturday, we wait. It's probably my least favorite day of this journey. I don't like waiting. I want to do something. But that's the point. This isn't about me. It isn't about what I want or what I can do. It's about waiting on God's timing. So we wait.

The season of Lent is almost over. Are you anticipating the celebration?
