Sunday Rewind 1.17.10

Today, we wrapped up our series, "So You're Dead...Now What?" by talking about the subject of Heaven. The reality is that many of us have little idea of what Heaven will be like. Part of the reason is because none of us can even imagine how incredible Heaven is (1 Corinthians 2:9).

Although total understanding is beyond our grasp, we can catch a glimpse of heaven by reading John's account of the vision God gave him, recorded in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 21:1-4). And from this glimpse, we can draw a few heavenly conclusions:
  • God will establish a new Heaven and a new earth. We may not know all the details of when, how and where, but one day, the same God who offers us new life in Christ, who will give us a new resurrected, glorified body, will also redeem creation.
  • God will do away with death, mourning, and pain. No more headaches, backaches or arthritis. Sickness...worry..stress...financial pressure...anxiety? Gone! No more babies dying from lack of nutrition. No more death or divorce. No more genocide. No more earthquakes!
  • God, Himself, will dwell with us. Moses could barely handle seeing the back side of God's glory. But we will see God face to face! Finally, the unbroken fellowship God wants with His people will be reality. At that moment, we will worship... and we’ll worship… and we’ll worship… and when we’ve worshipped a really long time, the words to the song Amazing Grace will take on new meaning… "When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’d first begun."
