Sunday Rewind 4.3.09

Today, we concluded our series on trust by exploring the risk associated with trust.

Like it or not, trust is a risky proposition. Most of us choose to avoid this risk by harboring suspicion. But harboring suspicion risky, too. It poisons our attitudes and will eventually destroy our relationships.

And then there's 1 John 1:5-7. “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

That means we have a choice to make. If we choose to conceal...choose to be suspicious...choose to walk in the darkness that characterizes this world, we’re liars. But, if we'll walk in the light, we'll experience genuine relationships, have a redeeming impact on our neighborhoods, and Christ’s blood purifies us from sin.

We know these things, but how do we live it? Try considering these questions:
  • Are there people I have a difficult time trusting?
  • Is it my issue or theirs?
  • What can I do about my part?
  • What do I need to address with them about their parts?
  • Who do I sense has a difficult time trusting me?
  • Why do they have a difficult time trusting me?
  • What can I do about it?
