Yesterday, we wrapped up our series called, "5 Things God Uses to Grow Your Faith", by talking about pivotal circumstances. What are those? Pivotal circumstances are those significant moments in life when we are tested in a way that allows us to see God more clearly, building our faith.
All of us face these moments. Some are good experiences, but most are heart-breaking, gut wrenching moments...situations that could threaten faith, but end up building it. Take, for example, John 11.
Jesus' dear friend, Lazarus was sick. So his sister, Martha sent word to Jesus, expecting him to come do something. But Jesus didn't. He stayed where he was, allowing Lazarus to die. Talk about a pivotal circumstance!
Why did Jesus wait? Why didn't he do something? He did it to build faith. Jesus created a pivotal circumstance to build faith. Now, 2000 year later, we’re reading the story, saying, "Is Jesus really the resurrection and the life?" Yes, he is! "Does he really have that power?" Yes, he does! "Is this true… that in the midst of all the junk of this world, we can hang onto Jesus?" Yes, you can!
When pivotal circumstances come, lean into the hand of God. You will see Him leverage these things to do something in you and through you, growing your faith.
If this is where you're living right now, let me give one suggestion. Instead of asking for circumstances to change, will you ask God to let you see Him in this? If we can see God in our pain, we won’t despair…we won’t lose faith.
Whether we like it or not, God uses pivotal circumstances to grow our faith, big.
