Success!

My sons are now 11 and 9. So I've decided to use this election cycle to sow seeds with them. I've had a few goals in mind:
  • Build a desire to participate in the civic privilege of voting.
  • Foster a respect for people who make themselves available to serve.
  • Encourage gathering information about candidates before making a decision.

Last night, my 9-year old came to me telling me I was right (You have to take those any time you can get it). I asked him what I was right about. He told me he was watching a show on Nick in which Barack Obama and John McCain were being asked questions of interest to kids.

He began by saying that he thought both candidates were good people. He said that making a decision would be hard because he agreed with some answers and disagreed with others. Then he told me he was going back to watch the rest of the show.

I call that success.

Congrats on raising civic minded little citizens. One time when my kids were around that age I actually took them to the polls with me and let them watch the whole process. Quite an education, and one of my favorite memories!
