For about a year, I've been saving Henri Nouwen's little book (100 pages), "In the Name of Jesus" for just the right moment. I decided that my trip to Atlanta for the Drive Conference was the right time.
Some books are "how to do it" type offerings that provide the reader with a few quick tips to get things done more effectively. Not so with this one. Nouwen's writings always cause me to think very deeply. Rarely do I find a quick takeaway. And this one is no exception.
In this volume, Nouwen looks at the temptations of Christ in terms of the temptations leaders face, and suggest spiritual disciplines to avoid falling into sin. The three he suggests are:
- Contemplative Prayer
- Confession and Forgiveness
- Theological Reflection
Lord, help me go deeper with you. Amen.
