Lenten Journey

A couple of weeks ago, my reading through "My Utmost for His Highest" pointed out the self-centeredness of my prayer life. So I decided on the Lenten discipline of not asking for anything for the span of Holy Week.

How did it go?

Well, for one, it was weird praying for people in group settings. The very first day, I had a meeting with several other pastors in the area. Of course, we spent time praying together, each taking our turn. One by one, they asked God for wisdom and blessing for the others gathered around the table. Then it was my turn. What was I going to say?

I simply said, "Lord, You are God, the Almighty One, to whom we turn." (long pause) "Amen".

Deep, huh?

Times of personal prayer weren't much better.... Or maybe that's exactly what I needed. To lose my words in order to find His.

Lord, teach me to pray.
