"Dreaming about a thing in order to do it properly is right; but dreaming about it when we should be doing it is wrong."
Sometimes I get this balance right. Often I err one way or the other. Let me explain.
When it comes to having big dreams, I have plenty. I love dreaming about possibilities. But moving from dreams to action can, at times, elude me. Take the upgrades at our home, for example. I love making the list. I love refining the list. I love imagining what things will look like when the work is done. But getting around to actually accomplishing the list? Not so exciting.
On the other hand, I can get so locked onto working out a problem that I lose focus on the big picture. It's one of the things I enjoyed about being a staff pastor. My arena was well defined. The tasks were clear. And working out the details of how what I was doing was contributing to the whole was somebody else's problem.
So, the quote that I began with really spoke plainly. Sometimes I need to do more. Sometimes I need to dream more. Sometimes I need to wait on God to bring the harvest.
God, grant me wisdom to know which is needed now.
