Workout Update

It's a new year. Time to set some fitness goals.

Last year, my goal was simple...keep working out 4-5 times per week. Goal achieved. I have officially made exercise a part of my life that I miss when it doesn't happen. It's time to step things up a notch.

This morning I stepped on the scale at the gym. The number read 324. Actually it was 323.75, so I rounded up. So I set a goal of being under 300 by 2009. I know that doesn't sound like much, just 1/2 pound per week. But it's a start. And if I reach that goal before I run out of year, I can always establish a new goal. To help, I've established two groundrules for myself.

First, I'm going to eat more. Yes, that's right...MORE. I know that doesn't seem to make sense, but hang with me. I eat very few fruits and vegetables. That's not good. So I decided to increase my eating to 4-5 servings per day.

Second, I'm going to eat earlier. Snacking in the evening is a real problem for me. There's nothing like a bowl of ice cream or a handfull (or two) of cookies, or a sandwich, or a... before bed! But I can't do that and reach my goal. So I decided to refuse to consume calories after 8:00 pm.

Yesterday, I faced my first test. As hard as it was to avoid snacking, I succeeded. I also managed to get all 5 servings of fruit and veggies in. That's a win!

This morning I got out the tape measure and recorded my measurements for neck, chest and waist. I'm not revealing those numbers. But I will occasionally report on how I'm doing, including how each of those numbers are changing.

You go!!!! A half pound a week is doable. I think I need to do that for a while too! The ice cream, cookies, and bed time snacks must go. But maybe just a small low cal snack at 8:00 will help carry you over. I'll be praying for you.

BTW, here is what I have found so far in my new devotions. God is always there to reveal himself to us. The question is; am I willing to commit the time seek his teaching through his Holy Spirit. I think that means the ball is my court. What will I do with it? Life seems to draw us away from God and I really struggle with that. You can pray for me about that.

I was doing what you did. Eating up until bed time. I know you'll see and feel a difference when you cut food off after 8:00pm. You will feel alot better in the morning too!! Great goal for the year!! I know you can do it!!
