Jesus' words on divorce struck me with new power. The specific phrase that challenges me today is, "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law" (Mark 10:5). What a sad indictment. The people had allowed their hearts to become so hard to God's design for marriage as a lasting covenant, that Moses had to make rules to regulate how divorce happened.
At this point, I could launch into a rant on the subject of divorce. But that's not what this blog is about. Instead, I find myself thinking about what areas I've allowed my heart to become so hard to God's design about, that I have to make rules to regulate my disobedience.
For example, the other day I bought a box of Little Debbie Nutty Bars. As I was buying them, I found myself rationalizing the purchase with the excuse of portion control. I figured that instead of grabbing a handful of cookies, this would limit my consumption to one pack.
My heart has become so hard to God's design for food, that using Little Debbie to set rules to regulate my abuse. Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner!
