Thru the Bible 7.11.07

Reading Amos today was a powerful experience. I had never read it within the chronology of Israel's history before. As I read, I couldn't help but think about the Church in North America.

"I can't stand your religious meetings. I'm fed up with your conferences and conventions. I want nothing to do with your religion projects, your pretentious slogans and goals. I'm sick of your fund-raising schemes, your public relations and image making. I've had all I can take of your noisy ego-music. When was the last time you sang to me? Do you know what I want?" (Amos 5:21-23; MSG)

Do we know what God wants? Do we care?

Or are we another example of the proliferation of Life Saving Stations along coastal New England...places which once saved souls, but whose focus today is solidly on it's members. Meanwhile people drown.
