It's My Party...

I turned 40 yesterday.

I must say that I wasn't looking forward to it. For some reason, this birthday has been more difficult than any other. But my family pulled out all the stops to give me a great day. Here are some of the highlights.
  • My Family. Every time I came through the door, the kids jumped up and yelled, "Happy Birthday". Then, last night, they staged a concert just for me. Jim sang. David danced. Janet ran sound. Forget Carnegie Hall. This topped them all.
  • Card Shower. I'm not much for surprise parties. And I asked Janet specifically to not throw one. Instead, she invited people to "shower" me with cards. What a great touch. I opened more than 40 cards yesterday. Some were from people I don't even know. I even got an email from friends in Finland! What a neat idea.
  • Montezumas. You know I love Mexican food. Well, last night, Janet had arranged to have a family that we've become good friends with to join us for dinner. His birthday was the 17th. I know that sounds like a surprise party. But it wasn't. Just two families eating a meal together.
  • F Troop. My favorite show from childhood. And Janet found a DVD with 6 episodes. So yesterday, I got to introduce my boys to Captain Wilton Parmenter, Sergeant Morgan O'Rourke, Corporal Randolph Agarn, "Wrangler" Jane, and the Hekawi tribe.

Many other things worked together to make a great day. Thanks, everyone, for making it special. I think I'll do it again next year.
