Here are some of the thoughts I've had as I continue reading through the Bible this year:
Quote:
God said, "I forgive them, honoring your words. But as I live and as the Glory of God fills the whole Earth—not a single person of those who saw my Glory, saw the miracle signs I did in Egypt and the wilderness, and who have tested me over and over and over again, turning a deaf ear to me—not one of them will set eyes on the land I so solemnly promised to their ancestors. No one who has treated me with such repeated contempt will see it. (Numbers 14:20-23)
Thought:
As a spiritual leader, choosing to follow the desires of the people often has great consequences. Our ears must be tuned to God, not man.
Quote:
God said to Moses, "Climb up into the Abarim Mountains and look over at the land that I am giving to the People of Israel. When you've had a good look you'll be joined to your ancestors in the grave—yes, you also along with Aaron your brother. (Numbers 27:12)
Thought:
How weird would it be to know how you're going to die? And, if you know this information, what do you tell your brother, Aaron?
Quote:
Moses followed God's orders. He took Joshua and stood him before Eleazar the priest in front of the entire community. He laid his hands on him and commissioned him, following the procedures God had given Moses. (Numbers 27:22-23)
Thought:
What a wonderful transition plan. It take a lot of maturity to bless coming generations with authority to lead. And it takes a lot of foresight and intentionality to prepare them for such a transition.
