Thru the Bible 3.23.07

I know it's Friday. Why didn't I post on Wednesday? Because I fell behind... ...again. Jack & Pat Smith's deaths have really hurt. Though I have been leaning on God in prayer, somehow Deuteronomy wasn't where I wanted to be in His Word. Nevertheless, I have caught up. So here are some of the thoughts I had as I finished Deuteronomy:

Quote:
“Because you are a people holy to God, your God, don't eat anything that you find dead. You can, though, give it to a foreigner in your neighborhood for a meal or sell it to a foreigner.” (Deuteronomy 14:21)

Thought:
This one made me laugh out loud. God's people can't eat roadkill, but they can sell it in their restaurants!

Quote:
“There must be no poor people among you because God is going to bless you lavishly in this land that God, your God, is giving you as an inheritance, your very own land.” (Deuteronomy 15:4)

Thought:
What, then, is required of a land as fruitful as ours? I'm grateful for those who keep our feet to the fire on the subject of social justice.

Quote:
“Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: 2 "I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The LORD has said to me, 'You shall not cross the Jordan.'” (Deuteronomy 31:1)

Thought:
I love it! It's not because he's 121 years old that he's no longer able to lead. It's because God says so.
