One of the most spectacular scenes recorded in Scripture is the Transfiguration. To read Luke's account, click here.
The transfiguration changed Peter, James & John forever. The experience began in an ordinary way, with Jesus going off to pray. But then they dozed off. And when they awoke, they were confronted with heaven's glory.
A log of people focus their attention on the fantastic details of the story. But if you spend your time guessing about the unexplained parts, you'll miss the whole point. The significance does not rest in the details, but in the meaning.
For Jesus, the transfiguration brought encouragment. For the disciples, the transfiguration confirmed that Jesus is Messiah. For us, the transfigurations challenges us to come to terms with a few questions.
Do we believe it happened? If not, what else will you remove from the Bible? If so, then Jesus really is God's Son.
What do we do with the conversation Jesus had with Moses and Elijah. If it really happened, then Jesus is not only God's Son, He is the Savior of the world.
Finally, what do we do about it. If we really believe that Jesus is both God's Son AND Savior of the world, then the only reasonable response is to receive His gift of grace and live as His disciple.
