Sometimes it can be difficult to schedule vacation time.
One of the challenges is having children in school. I have come to accept that people more powerful than me believe it's more important for my children to be in school than it is for my vacation time to be flexible. So we have to schedule around school calendars.
Another of the challenges is the ministry to which God has called me. Normally, people expect their pastor to show up around Christmas and Easter (two of the prime times our kids are off from school). So we have to schedule around church calendars.
Yet another challenge is that I prefer not to exhaust all my vacation time in the summer. So we have to schedule around my preference.
Sometimes is can be difficult to schedule time off.
But I have found an opening...Thanksgiving. So today is my last day in the office. Tomorrow, while the kids are in school, I think I'll go the gym late. I think I'll also include a sauna while I'm at it. Then I think I'll settle in with the biography of Harry Truman I'm working on. That is, of course, unless a child has to stay home from school sick. After that, I'm not sure what I'll be doing or where I'll be doing it.
My next time back to reality will be next Wednesday. By then, I'll be needing to make a decision about joining the gym by actually paying for it.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
