Sunday Rewind 10.8.06

Our brothers and sisters in Christ in the Amish community have amazed the world with their response to the violence in Nickel Mines, PA. Instead of calling for gun control, tighter security or law suits, they have offered forgiveness.

The Bible has plenty to say on the subject of forgiveness. Try these:
1. Psalm 40
2. Philemon 1:10-18
3. Matthew 18:21-35

I see several lessons emerging from this past week. Some are things to forget. Some are things to remember. Some are questions to consider.

Things to forget:
1. Holding a grudge makes sense.
2. Guilt is someting you have to live with.
3. God doesn't care.

Things to remember:
1. Forgiveness works.
2. Goodness abounds.
3. Faith is an applied science.

Some questions to consider:
1. Have your reactions been more similar to the Amish or the world?
2. To whom do you need to extend forgiveness.
3. Of whom do you need to ask forgiveness.
