Practicing What I Preach

This coming Sunday, I'm going to do something I've never done before. I am going to use my guitar to accompany our Praise Team. This is something I've been working on (see "New Strings and Other Things" from June 3, 2006). But, to be honest, I'm a bit nervous.

Last night, I was talking to Big D (regular commenter). I was sharing with him my apprehension. I shared with him that I hoped that my trying something risky might encourage others to try, even though success was questionable. On my way home, I got thinking about last week's sermon about overcoming obstacles by faith. You know, be who you are...use what you have...act in faith (see "Sunday Rewind 6.25.06).

So that's what I'm going to do. I'll appreciate your prayer support as I step out in faith, trusting the results in God's hands.

Just got me thinking...isn't it amazing how that which we focus on GROWS so LARGE, so quickly...focus on a FEAR and it LOOMS OVER US, focus on GOD and HE IS SO POWERFUL that we, in his power, can do anything; not anything we want, but anything He wants us to do. Why does this self-thing so limit and God so empower and free? On a recent family vacation I enjoyed watching faces as people interacted. One was a little girl talking to her grandpa. Her face was about fifteen inches from his and she looked so intently into his eyes as she talked and her whole being searched his eyes the entire time they communicated. She searched something else too, it's hard to describe, but it was his face. It was a study almost, like she was memorizing what she saw. Her eyes never left his face, but seemed to absorb it the whole time they talked. When she would quiet she continued to search his eyes for his response. It made me question how I talk with others: friends, family, strangers...Do I look into their eyes and place myself wholly into our interaction? If not, why? I also visualized for a time God and I communicating through prayer? Do stand in his presence so completely, stare into his face so raptly, listen expectantly, and speak, confident that He is focused entirely on me? Do I await God's response like that child...unrelenting, expectant, and so satisfied and completely involved in the conversation?
And most importantly, as I journey through my day do I feel his presence so strongly that it's as though I too have memorized a face, the face of God?

We are uniquely made by God's design...We are His art, His masterpieces...How can we ever doubt ourselves if our eyes are upon God? Christ came so that we could, once and for all, be in contact with our Father, the creator of the universe. We are magnificent creations, longing for meaning, substance, achievement, success, when the greatest success we can ever achieve is to be a reflection of the One who created us, God. What a privilege, what an opportunity, what a wonder, what a plan... We as mortals have the power of God within us because of Christ! Wow! May our limited minds take this in and let God's limitless power guide us and multiply His Kingdom on earth...and one day, His Kingdom in Heaven...
