My Sunday afternoons typically involve a nap in front of the TV while a sporting event provides background noise. But yesterday we did something completely different.
Yesterday was "Friendship Night". On the way out of church after the 2nd service, Charlie & Rhoda Treher asked if we would like to go to Caledonia for a picnic. So we gathered up some food and drink and headed to the park.
What a great day! We ate, chatted, tossed baseball & frisbee, took a walk (which included the boys getting way to close to the creek) and simply enjoyed life together.
So I started thinking about what made the day so much fun. Yes the company was wonderful. Yes the food was delicious. But most of all, at least for me, it was the simplicity that was so refreshing. No television, no phone, no interruptions. Just fresh air, a babbling stream, and time to be together.
Now I'm not saying that from now on, every Suday will include a picnic. But I certainly have found a better alternative than sitting inside on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. And for that I am grateful.
